The Difference Between Web Design and Web Application Development

There are a lot of differences between web design and web development. In essence, web design relates to both the artistic part of the site and its functionality. Web Developers, however, take a web design and really make a functional website out of it. Web developers typically use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and many other languages to convert the sketchy design files into a working website. It is not uncommon to find freelance web designers or small web development firms, which focus solely on web design. These companies are usually run by web developers and designers who enjoy what they do.

Most web development companies have teams of knowledgeable and talented web developers. The web developers create the HTML or the coding that makes a web page. Once this coding is in place, the web developers will layout, create the header, footer and other visual aspects of the site. They will also add content such as videos, pictures and text. Then it is time for the web developers to do some functional programming to make sure the site is functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Sometimes web designers and web application development professionals will collaborate closely. Sometimes they will use specialized software to create some of the designs. Other times the two groups will talk about the best ways to integrate programming into their project. This collaboration is helpful because it allows each group to explore different programming possibilities without compromising the overall vision. When web designers and web application developers are crafting a site together, they can also discuss technical aspects such as the look and feel of the site as well as the functionality of the site. They can also decide what will be most important to the users of the site.
